Installation failures fall into four groups: insufficient permissions, security software blocking, leftovers from an older version, or missing system components. Work through them in order.
Permissions and security software
Run the installer as administrator; if security software blocks driver installation, disable it temporarily or whitelist the installer, then restore protection afterwards.
- Right-click and run as administrator
- Disable security software temporarily
- Whitelist the installer
- Allow driver installation prompts
Cleaning the old version
Leftovers cause a new install to fail at startup or behave oddly. Uninstall normally, remove leftover directories and registry entries, then reinstall.
- Uninstall normally from system settings
- Delete leftover installation directories
- Reboot before installing again
- Use the official cleanup tool if needed
System components and space
Missing runtimes, a very old system or low disk space also break installation. Confirm the minimum requirements first.
- Confirm the system version is supported
- Install required runtime libraries
- Keep enough free disk space
- Update system patches and retry
FAQ
It errors immediately after launch.
Usually drivers or runtimes. Try running as administrator; if that fails, clean up, reinstall, and keep security software off during the attempt.
The device still appears in my list after uninstalling.
Remove it manually in your account. If the machine still holds the old configuration, it has to be bound again.
